Celebrate Darwin's Bromley

A free family fun day was held to showcase the range of opportunities available for residents and visitors to enjoy parks and open spaces across the borough, and celebrate the area that Darwin used as his landscape laboratory. The aim was to raise awareness of the activities and organisations that use the borough's vast number of green spaces for sport, recreation, conservation, education, walking or just simply enjoying the outdoors....

The event was held at Queen's Gardens, Bromley (behind the Glades Shopping Centre). There were many stalls, activities and demonstrations for all ages to participate including information on how to become a Friend of a local park or greenspace and the chance to try a new hobby from beekeeping to flower arranging.

There is also a new Darwin Garden, it was created to celebrate the bicentenary of this local resident's birth and the 150th anniversary of the publication of 'On the Origin of Species'.
There was also displays from the artists, poets and photographers that won the Darwin themed Creative Bromley competition and Darwin inspired displays, workshops and street theatre to celebrate his scientific work in Bromley.
