Discovery Visits are a range of site-based workshops and interactive tours that look at the history of Charles Darwin and Down House. Developed with The Charles Darwin Trust

Darwin the Man
Key Stage: 2,3 History
Learn more about what Darwin was like as a person. Through role-play, discussion and observation, find out about Darwin’s thoughts on his voyages, life at Down House and his great discoveries.
When: Weekdays during term time by arrangement
Duration: 1.5 hours

The Darwins: A Victorian Family
Key Stage: 2, History
Discover what Victorian family life was like at home with the Darwins. A combination of hands on activities, games and discussion will encourage students to think about Victorian pastimes, home life and family values and investigate if the Darwins were a typical Victorian family.

Explore the gardens that inspired Darwin’s scientific research. Observe what Darwin observed, investigate how Darwin came to his conclusions and reach your own.
