Launch of Discover Darwin Education Pack at Cudham School

Cudham C.E. Primary School hosted an International Environment Day launching the new Discover Darwin Education Resource . The children and staff were very excited to welcome the Rt. Hon. Jim Fitzpatrick MP (Minister for Food, Farming and the Environment) to share the day with them. He had the opportunity to attend their assembly delivered by the school's 'Eco-warriors' and tour the school and visit 'Emma's Garden': a newly-built allotment, sensory and reflective garden named after Charles Darwin's wife.

The Minister launched 'Discover Darwin', a new and exciting educational resource pack for KS2 & 3 which has been sent to all Bromley schools. The pack has been produced to help teachers explore the science of Darwin and to replicate some of his experiments in the classroom.
This celebratory educational pack has been produced by The London Borough of Bromley and The Charles Darwin Trust, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund to encourage children to follow in Darwin's Footsteps using The Origin of Species as a route map. Cudham School has been involved in the development and trailing of the pack through lessons and activities carried out in their school, including creating a 'Darwin Thinking Walk' within the school grounds.

During his visit, the Minister also had the opportunity to share some of the wonderful projects that the children have recently completed. These will incude: The Reception class learning about 'Grow-your-own'; Y1/2 exploring Healthy Eating; Y3/4 learning about the environment nationally; and Y5/6 following in the footsteps of Darwin to learn about his work and unique links to their school.

The full Discover Darwin Education Pack and supporting PowerPoint displays can be downloaded free from our Education Pages.
